Sustainability Badger
Sustainability Badger
Process

The Sustainability Badger was spawned out of a desire to help college age students practice more sustainable behavior. The idea began to take form after the members of our team took part in an exercise discussing current problems facing young people that we considered worthy of being addressed. The list spanned across social, political, and environmental issues.
The idea of The Sustainability Badger came to exist after a few collaboration sessions where the team decided to gamify the distribution of sustainable information by turning the app into a scavenger hunt. The gamification was increased by not only implementing a scavenger hunt, but also rewarding unique badges for each of the stickers that is scanned by a person.
My team and I decided to tackle the problem of climate change by influencing the steps users take day to day to make people more aware of how their decisions impact the world around them.
To accomplish this, we will create a series of QR code stickers that we will be placing around the city of Chicago that, when scanned, reveal a tip or fun fact about how their actions impact the environment and encourage more sustainable behavior.
The users will also get a unique badge with every QR code scanned, which they can collect as an incentive to keep scanning.
